Private Cask Selection (The Whisky Exchange # 4) Foursquare distillery continues to produce some of the best rums in the world and this exclusive bottling is no exception. A blend of pot and column-distilled rums, matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, Foursquare Mystique is rich with aromas of freshly ground coffee, cigar boxes and cassia bark that lead into a palate of toffee popcorn, medjool dates and cloves.

*Nose
Fresh red apples, baked apples with dark brown sugar, white-wine-poached pears, fruity boiled sweets, foam strawberries and bananas, sultanas and plump raisins, and a touch of rum ‘n’ raisin ice cream. That all sits on top of a pile of rich cake – Jamaican-style ginger cake (sorry Barbados) with treacle sauce, rich fruit cake and a hint of chocolate fudge cake.

*Palate
Packed with flavour and quite intense. A burst of cinnamon is followed by spicy ginger and layers of stewed, baked and dried fruit: raisin jam, baked apples and pears, dried mango and roasted banana. Dark sugars build – treacle toffee and singed caramel – with tarry touches and golden syrup.

*Finish
Long, spicy and rich, with treacle toffee slowly fading away.
